BAKGATLA-BA-KGAFELA HOST THE ANC JANUARY 8 STATEMENT AT MORULENG STADIUM, PLACING OUR NATION AT THE CENTRE OF NATIONAL DIALOGUE.

The Bakgatla-ba-Kgafela community in the North West Province will host the African National Congress (ANC) for its 114th January 8 Statement Anniversary. This marks a significant milestone for the Bakgatla-ba-Kgafela, as the community takes centre stage in hosting one of the most important events on the ANC’s annual calendar.

The celebrations will be held at Moruleng Stadium in the village of Moruleng. The multi-purpose stadium has a seating capacity of 20,000 and holds notable historical significance, having formed part of Rustenburg’s 2010 FIFA World Cup host city proposals. It was also used as a training venue during the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and currently serves as the home ground of the Lerumo Lions Football Club.

In preparation for the event, the ANC and its alliance partners have undertaken a series of engagements with traditional leadership. These included courtesy visits to Kgosi Nyalala Pilane and the Royal Family in Moruleng. Such engagements are consistent with African custom and tradition, which require that traditional authorities be formally informed and consulted prior to activities taking place within their jurisdiction. These visits reaffirm the ANC’s respect for traditional institutions and their vital role in community leadership and governance.

As part of the build-up to the main event scheduled for Saturday, 10 January 2026, the ANC and its alliance organisations have also rolled out community-focused initiatives. These initiatives are aimed at engaging directly with community members, strengthening local structures, and providing platforms for residents to raise issues affecting their communities.
