The tribe's villages ring around the Pilanesberg National Park, one of Africa's premiere wildlife tourist destinations. The tribe holds a stake in the beautifully-appointed Ivory Tree Game Lodge. Tourism can inject in to the development of the community in a variety of ways. It's extremely labour intensive and creates a myriad of job opportunities, which in turn, diversifies and stabilises the local economy. Over the years it has contributed to the local business revenue and local employment. The potential attractions remain largely untapped, but plans are underway to develop several additional offerings. BBKIH manages the shareholding in African Ivory owning 2 pristine private lodges, Ivory Tree and Shepard Tree.

The community owned land hosts the western end of PGM rich Bushveld Complex. Two mines in the area, Pilanesburg Platinum Mines and Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mines are hosted in the BBK jurisdiction and the BBK community has 25,7% and 27% respectively. BBKIH participates in the empowerment consortium in the Sibanye Stillwater Rustenburg Operation translating to 6% of the main company. BBKIH is currently exploring mineral opportunities with 2 projects underway and 1 about to be commissioned.
The harnessing of the community's 150, 000 hectares provides a vital resource for rural development and poverty alleviation through agricultural initiatives. Production is largely focused on small-scale and commercial cattle farming. The BBK Master Plan advocates intensifying commercialisation by establishing a dairy industry and investing in the red meat value chain with feedlots, an abattoir and tannery. Hydroponics, bio-fuels and a vegetable cannery offer innovative and diverse farming opportunities.

One of BBK's key focus areas is identifying, commercialising and marketing business opportunities, within the community, tapping into local customer relationships and international relations. The manufacturing industry contributes to the country’s economy, thus becomes key to the BBK community. The strategic intent is to establish these industries to further process raw materials produced in the economy for maximum benefit.
